All-Ukrainian Award:
Pacesetters for Energy Management

Auchan Ukraine started saving light since 2015, after the Paris Summit on climate change. During this time, the retailer managed to reduce the level of electricity consumption by 30%, says the head of external communications of the company Olena Orlova. On average, Auchan hypermarkets consume 8,000-10,000 kW per day.

Because of the new tariffs, the company decided first of all to turn on the lights in the sales halls, to reduce the use of ventilation systems during hours when there are fewer customers. “43% of our energy costs are to maintain the required temperature in the refrigerators. We can’t just take it and screw it on,” adds Orlova. In stores of the Spar and Nash Kray chains, lighting systems have been replaced, and refrigerators are now bought only of new technological models, says Molchenko

“Kolo” is considering projects to install solar panels. “This requires significant investment, and government support programs would help us,” says the executive director of the network, Maryna Sergienko. During the year, the retailer optimized energy consumption and reduced costs by 22%.

“We are replacing refrigerating machines and retail equipment with more energy-efficient models,” says Denis Pogorelov, deputy general director of Eco-market. This helped reduce electricity costs, he adds.
